Review – Waldorf Astoria Shanghai

The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai in China undoubtedly lives up to its brand name – classical, elegant and best in class.

A beautiful historic building houses the hotel which is centrally located in the Bund area of Shanghai. The building was originally the Shanghai Men’s Club, an escape for men of European descent during the 1920’s Shanghai heydey.

Upon arrival, I was immediately welcomed by multiple bell boys – two escorted us to the check-in desk while the others took care of the luggage. I would dare say that the check-in was probably the most efficient and expeditious hotel process in quite some time.

The lobby of the hotel is absolutely beautiful with its white marble floors and dark wood finish walls.  The lobby extends from one side of the building to the other with dozens of seating areas and access to two bars in between.

The Room

The room was equally amazing as the rest of the hotel. The attention to detail in the woodwork, the elegant accommodations and comfortable bed were remarkable.

The room featured a king size bed, 42-inch LED TV, sitting area with ottoman, desk and nespresso coffeemaker.

The walk-in closet featured a wall-to-wall closet, multiple shelves and drawers, a safe for storage of valuables and a large marble counter for a suitcase.

The bathroom was as beautiful as the rest of the room with a shower, bathtub, double sink, wall-to-wall mirror with embedded television and a SMART toilet which opens as one approached it and served as a bidet amongst other functions.

As one could expect, all of the bathroom amenities were Salvatore Ferragamo.

The Long bar

The Long Bar, has the longest bar counter in Asia.  It’s long marble bar, wood floors and carved wooden walls throughout provides a great setting for a business meeting or just relax and listen to the live music every night.

Breakfast buffet

As a Hilton Honors Gold member, I was offered a complimentary breakfast buffet at the main restaurant. The breakfast buffet has an amazing selection of various cuisine options including Asian, Western and European menus.

Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is located on the second floor near the pool and spa. The lounge offers two quiet areas for meetings or to just sit and read a book while you enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee.

Pool and Spa

The large indoor pool is situated on the second floor next to the Spa which offers a full range of massages and skin therapies. The pool is long enough to do laps thus providing another option to exercise.

The gym is top-notch with a several treadmills, stationary bicycles, free weights and weight machines.

The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai is an amazing hotel, centrally located in a beautiful city. If you’re looking to stay at one of the best hotels in Shanghai, you will not go wrong.
